Käpfle, Mountain summit in Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Käpfle is a mountain summit in Baden-Württemberg featuring a 12-meter (39 ft) wooden observation tower built in 1974 that overlooks Reutlingen and the Swabian Alb region. Several hiking trails of varying lengths depart from this location through the surrounding countryside.
The location was home to Alteburg castle until 1073, which influenced the names of present-day establishments in the area, though no remains of the castle survive today. This early settlement marked an important point in the region's past.
This summit serves as a meeting point where regional hiking groups gather to explore the surrounding trails through the Swabian landscape. It holds a special place in local walking culture, with visitors returning regularly to enjoy the routes.
Access to the summit is straightforward with marked parking areas and equipped rest spots with benches available. Weather conditions at the top can be windier than in lower elevations, so visitors should dress accordingly.
On clear days, visitors can see Hohenzollern Castle, the Neckar valley, and the northern edge of the Middle Swabian Alb from the tower platform. This expansive view makes every clear day a special experience for photographers and nature enthusiasts.
