Jägerhof

Jägerhof is a Renaissance hunting lodge in Dresden's Neustadt district, recognizable by its polygonal stair towers and curved domes from that era. The four-winged building now holds museum collections on multiple floors that visitors can explore room by room.

An elector moved his hunting operations to this location in the 1500s, and the complex took several decades to complete. The building went through different periods of use and changes before settling into its current role as a museum space.

The museum inside has presented local craftsmanship and everyday objects from the Saxon region for over a century. The upper rooms display puppets and theater pieces that show how performance traditions developed in this part of Germany.

The building sits in a central area of Dresden and is easy to reach on foot, with good public transport connections nearby. Allow several hours to properly view both museum collections inside.

In the 1600s, the building briefly housed an unusual collection of wild bears within its walls. This strange chapter often goes unnoticed by visitors but offers an amusing glimpse into the building's more colorful past.
