Wohnhochhaus Ideal, Residential tower in Buckow, Neukölln district, Germany

Wohnhochhaus Ideal is a residential tower in Neukölln comprising 31 floors that house 227 apartments spread across approximately 16,000 square meters of living space. The building stands about 91 meters tall and features three elevators to serve residents throughout its height.

The building was designed by Walter Gropius and The Architects Collaborative between 1966 and 1969. When completed, it became the tallest residential structure in West Germany, marking a significant moment in postwar housing design.

The building brings together residents from different backgrounds in shared spaces where everyday connections form naturally. The sauna located in the upper floors creates opportunities for people to meet and build neighborly relationships.

The building is easily accessible by public transportation and sits within a densely populated residential area. Keep in mind that this is a private residential building, so access to interior spaces is limited to residents and authorized visitors.

Once a year, the Tower-Run event challenges participants to climb all 465 stairs to reach the building's top. The current record stands under four minutes, revealing how demanding this unusual athletic competition is.
