Wasserburg Schloss-Nauses

Wasserburg Schloss-Nauses is a water castle with a rectangular layout in Otzberg. The main building and gate tower stand together within the fortified compound, surrounded by remnants of former moats.

The castle was built around 1357 as a fortification in the countryside. Over the centuries it changed hands several times before becoming part of Hessen-Darmstadt in 1806.

The castle displays features of a late medieval noble residence that visitors can still see today. The semi-circular stair tower with its coat of arms shows the craftsmanship of that era.

The site is accessible year-round and sits in an area with hiking trails and local restaurants. Bring sturdy footwear since the grounds have uneven terrain.

The original water system was fed by a nearby stream, showing how castle builders cleverly used natural sources for defense. This engineering solution was typical for fortifications of that era in the German-speaking region.
