Schiefer Turm von Dausenau, Inclined medieval tower in Dausenau, Germany
The stone tower rises 16.39 meters high and forms part of the medieval fortification wall that once protected the town of Dausenau.
After Dausenau received town rights in 1348, the construction of the fortification system, including this tower, reached completion around 1359.
The tower serves as a testament to medieval German defensive architecture and remains a recognized cultural heritage monument in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The structure maintains a tilt of 5.22 degrees from vertical, which engineers monitor through precise measurements and plaster markers placed across gaps.
The tower stands on solid rock on its mountain side but rests on clay-mixed ground on its valley side, causing its progressive inclination over centuries.
