Leitzachwerke, Pumped storage power plant in Vagen, Germany
The Leitzachwerke facility consists of three interconnected power plants situated between Feldolling and Vagen, utilizing water from the Leitzach river for energy production.
Construction of the initial power plant began in December 1911, marking the establishment of what became Germany's largest hydroelectric facility with 24,000 horsepower.
The Leitzachwerke represents the industrial advancement of Bavaria through its integration of hydroelectric technology and sustained contribution to regional power infrastructure.
The facility generates electricity using height differences of 128 meters and maintains a water storage capacity of 6 million cubic meters in Seehamer See.
The power plant system incorporates underground basins, pressure pipelines, and Kaplan tube turbines to manage variable water flows throughout different seasons.
