Luthereiche, Memorial oak tree in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Germany.
The Luthereiche stands in the eastern part of the old town, surrounded by a sandstone-framed area with a fountain and stone bench.
At this location in 1520, Martin Luther burned the papal bull Exsurge Domine, marking his separation from the Roman Catholic Church.
The current oak tree, planted in 1830, replaced the original one that French forces cut down in 1813 during the War of Liberation.
The memorial tree is located at coordinates 51.8641046, 12.6557072, near the former Elstertor gate in Lutherstadt Wittenberg.
The site includes the Paul-Friedrich fountain and a stone bench created by sculptor Wilhelm Rex, added to the memorial in 1924.
