Olenhusen is an estate situated between Grundbach stream and Road K34 near Settmarshausen, at approximately 200 meters above sea level. The property comprises several farm buildings from different construction periods and is protected as a cultural monument.
The first written mention of Olenhusen, then called Olenhus, appears in the Traditiones Corbeienses documents dating between 826 and 876. Remnants of medieval fortification walls on the site testify to this lengthy settlement history.
The protected property shows building styles from different periods and mixes older structures with later additions, reflecting the craft traditions of the region.
The property is connected to Settmarshausen and Rosdorf via Road K34 and can be reached by bus line 131 of the South Lower Saxony Transport Association. The estate sits in easily accessible countryside, and the adjoining park provides space for walking around.
The estate park was established in the 18th century and preserves sections of ancient landwehr fortifications in the form of double ditches. These earthworks show how communities once protected their boundaries with simple yet effective methods.
