Pipe organ of Stadtkirche Waltershausen

The Trost organ features three manual keyboards, a pedal board, and 53 stops distributed across its wooden and metal pipes.

Master organ builder Tobias Heinrich Gottfried Trost constructed this instrument between 1724 and 1730, with modifications continuing until 1755.

This organ represents the peak of Thuringian organ building tradition, incorporating specific tonal qualities preferred by German Baroque composers.

The instrument underwent extensive restoration from 1994 to 1998, returning it to its 1730 condition with original tuning at 466.8 Hz.

Seventy percent of the original pipes remain intact, making this the largest preserved Baroque organ in the Thuringia region of Germany.
