Propsteikirche 1982, Catholic parish church in Mitte, Leipzig, Germany.
Propsteikirche is a modern Catholic parish church in central Leipzig with a distinctive triangular structure and a separate 50-meter tower. The facade incorporates red Rochlitz porphyry and combines contemporary design with functional spaces for worship and concerts.
The original church building from 1982 developed structural problems and was eventually replaced by this new building inaugurated in 2015. This marked the return of Catholic presence to central Leipzig after roughly 70 years of absence.
The northern windows display texts from both testaments that shift in appearance throughout the day, while the interior regularly hosts organ concerts and choir performances. Visitors experience an active musical life that fills the space with sound.
The building is easily reached on foot from the city center and provides clear orientation through its distinctive tower. Visitors will find sufficient space inside the church with regular opening hours that allow flexible visiting options.
The building received Religious Building of the Year recognition at the 2016 World Architecture Festival in honor of its innovative triangular design and sustainability features. The church uses geothermal energy, solar panels, and rainwater harvesting to meet more than three-quarters of its energy needs from renewable sources.
