Rittergut Remeringhausen, Manor estate in Stadthagen, Germany.
Rittergut Remeringhausen is a manor estate in Stadthagen, Lower Saxony, made up of two listed main buildings: a Renaissance wing from 1599 and a Baroque mansion from 1701. The two buildings are joined by a bridge built in 1750 and the whole property sits within a large estate park.
In the late 1500s, Ludolph von Münchhausen took over the property and turned what had been a working farm into a noble estate. He also built up a notable library, which kept the family's collected knowledge alive for generations.
The estate has been in the von Münchhausen family for centuries, a noble family whose name is deeply rooted in Lower Saxon history. The grounds host events through the year, including a park festival and a barn celebration that draw visitors from the surrounding area.
The estate is privately owned and not open for drop-in visits, so getting in touch with the owners beforehand is necessary. Planning ahead is especially useful if you want to time your visit around one of the events held on the grounds.
The ground on which the estate stands is thought to have served as a lookout point in Roman times, used to watch troop movements across the region. This elevated position is still noticeable when you look out across the property today.
