Rheingauer Dom

Rheingauer Dom is a Catholic parish church in Geisenheim combining late Gothic style with neo-Gothic additions that shape its distinctive exterior. Inside, the space is defined by soaring vaults, two tall towers, and a notable 19th-century organ that fills the space with its presence.

Construction of this house of worship took place between 1510 and 1518, replacing an earlier Romanesque structure that had occupied the site since the 1100s. The new building arose during a period of religious and artistic transformation in the region.

The church serves as a performance space for classical music events that draw listeners from across the region. During the Rheingau Music Festival, concerts take place regularly within these walls, transforming the sacred space into a venue for artistic expression.

The building sits centrally in Geisenheim and is easily reached on foot, with an interior that is accessible to most visitors. Access and timing may be affected by church services or scheduled events, so checking ahead is helpful.

Despite its name Dom, which typically denotes a cathedral with a bishop's seat, this building never functioned as such an administrative religious center. The title was granted purely for its regional standing and architectural importance.
