Open Air Museum Bad Sobernheim

The Open Air Museum Bad Sobernheim is a collection of historical buildings from various regions spread across a large grounds. The site contains old farmhouses, workshops, and agricultural structures that together convey the picture of an earlier time.

The museum was founded in 1974 as an association to preserve rural buildings from decay. In 2003 it changed to foundation status to permanently secure its mission of preserving regional building traditions.

The buildings display crafts and work techniques that visitors can understand directly by observing them. You see how people lived and worked in earlier times, with authentic tools and furnishings from that period.

Visiting requires time to walk around on unpaved paths between the buildings. Sturdy footwear is recommended, especially in wet weather, as some areas can become muddy.

Each building was carefully dismantled at its original location, transported, and reconstructed on the museum grounds. This makes it possible to experience the original structures and craftsmanship authentically, rather than seeing only replicas.
