Schloss Seyfriedsberg, Heritage castle in Ziemetshausen, Germany.
Schloss Seyfriedsberg is a historic castle complex in Ziemetshausen, Bavaria, made up of a three-story main building and a side wing set at a right angle to it. A connecting wall closes off a central courtyard between the two parts, and the whole complex sits within a forest-botanical park.
The castle was first recorded in 1251, when Konrad Spannagel was named as its resident. Over the following centuries it changed hands several times, passing through the Bishops of Augsburg, the Staufer dynasty, and the Habsburgs before settling into private ownership.
The name Seyfriedsberg comes from the noble Seyfried family, who lived on this estate for generations. The park reflects the personal tastes of a former aristocratic owner, who introduced tree species from distant regions as a kind of private collection.
The forest-botanical park around the castle is open year-round and easy to visit on foot. Dry weather makes it easier to walk the paths, as some sections pass through wooded areas.
The park's mild microclimate allows trees to grow here that would normally struggle in this region, including Ginkgo and old Sequoia specimens. These were planted by a former aristocratic owner and are still standing on the grounds today.
