Schloss Wertingen, Stately home and town hall in Wertingen, Germany.
Schloss Wertingen is a dual castle complex at the northwest edge of the town with two to three stories and pitched roofs. The buildings are surrounded by deep, stone-lined moats that emphasize their fortified position.
The castle was built in 1354 as a two-story structure and gained two round towers around 1500. A later eastern wing expanded the complex and shaped its current form.
The castle houses a museum displaying local crafts and ways of life from the region, from old tools to furnishings from past centuries. Visitors can see how people lived and worked here in earlier times.
The castle serves as town hall and administrative center, so the exterior is accessible but interior spaces are often reserved for official business. Visitors should check in advance which areas are open to the public, as some sections may have restricted access.
The complex clearly shows two distinct building phases through different architectural styles and towers that become visible as you walk around the castle. These design contrasts still today reflect the changes the site experienced across the centuries.
