Schloss Wöbbel, Baroque castle in Schieder-Schwalenberg, Germany
Schloss Wöbbel is a Baroque castle in Schieder-Schwalenberg with a rectangular floor plan, two stories, and a high hipped roof. The stone structure displays clear elements of Dutch Classical architecture throughout its design.
The castle was built around 1690 under architect Peter Pictorius for Levin Moritz von Donop, following the destruction of an earlier Renaissance structure during the Thirty Years War. This new construction replaced the former building on the site and reshaped the appearance of the location.
The entrance portal displays the coat of arms of the von Donop and Bubinghausen-Walmerode families, showing the noble roots of those who once lived here. These symbols remain visible reminders of the regional nobility and their connection to this place.
The castle has been in private ownership since 1958 and is not open to the public. Visitors can view the exterior and grounds from outside but must respect property boundaries.
The castle's economic courtyard contains structures built in 1720 using materials from older buildings dating to the 16th and 17th centuries. These reconstructions demonstrate how building materials were reused and round-arched passageways were created.
