Schloss Paffendorf, Renaissance castle in Bergheim, Germany

The red brick castle features two round towers, Gothic-style battlements, and turrets, surrounded by water-filled moats from the Erft River.

The castle's origins date to 1230, with the current structure built between 1531 and 1546, followed by Gothic Revival modifications from 1861 to 1865.

The castle houses a permanent exhibition about Rhine brown coal mining, highlighting the regional industrial development and economic transformation.

The castle functions as a conference center with six meeting rooms accommodating up to 150 people, complete with multimedia equipment and catering services.

The 7.5-hectare castle park contains fossilized Sequoia stumps from 15 million years ago, preserved due to their high tannin content.
