Schloss Petershagen

Schloss Petershagen is a water castle featuring Weser Renaissance elements, built with dark Porta sandstone and lighter Obernkirchen sandstone in a checkered pattern. The structure appears compact and fortress-like with multiple wings arranged around a central courtyard.

The castle began as a bishop's seat in 1306, then transformed into a grand residence between 1544 and 1547 under master craftsman Jörg Unkair. This renovation reflected the building's shift from religious to aristocratic use.

The castle has shaped the town's character for centuries and remains central to local celebrations and gatherings. Visitors notice how the grand architecture blends with its current use as a venue for community events.

The castle welcomes visitors for events such as weddings and conferences, with multiple rooms available for different occasions. During summer months, visitors can enjoy dining in the castle cellar restaurant located in the historic underground spaces.
