Schloss Petershagen, Renaissance château in Petershagen, Germany
The structure features dark Porta sandstone and lighter Obernkirchen sandstone materials in its walls, displaying the architectural style of the Weser Renaissance period.
Originally constructed as a water castle in 1306 by Bishop Gottfried von Waldeck, the building underwent transformation into a château between 1544 and 1547 under Swabian master Jörg Unkair.
The château served as a governmental seat for the Hohenzollern dynasty after the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, marking a shift from religious to secular administration.
The château functions as an event venue with multiple rooms for conferences, weddings, and celebrations, including a castle cellar restaurant open during summer weekends.
During World War II, the British Rhine Army occupied the building, which subsequently provided shelter for numerous refugee families before its conversion into a hotel.
