Schloss Planegg, Heritage château in Planegg, Germany.
Schloss Planegg is a château in the Planegg area southwest of Munich with a symmetrical layout, multiple wings, and a central courtyard. Decorative elements adorn the exterior walls, and the grounds contain remnants of a former brewery from the 16th century.
The castle was founded around 1415 and underwent major renovations in 1617, including the construction of Saint Magdalene Chapel within its structure. These modifications gave it the symmetrical form it retains today.
The castle grounds include a former brewery from the 16th century that now functions as storage space for the Bavarian State Library.
The castle remains private property of the Von Hirsch family and is not open to visitors. You can view the exterior architecture from public areas surrounding the estate.
In 1938, the castle was attacked and burned by SS forces during the Night of Broken Glass, marking a dark moment in its history. The structure survived the fire, serving as a reminder of those troubled times.
