Rastede Castle

Rastede Castle is a three-wing structure in Rastede, Lower Saxony, that displays baroque architectural elements with detailed stucco work. The building stands surrounded by extensive landscaped gardens and park grounds that complement the ensemble.

The site traces its origins to 1091, when a Benedictine monastery was founded here before later serving as a hunting lodge. Over the 17th and 18th centuries, the location evolved into a summer palace for nobility.

The castle serves as a venue for events and draws visitors who explore the grounds and engage with cultural activities held throughout the year. The rooms retain their baroque decorations, which shape the feel of the place as you move through the building.

The grounds are open to visitors who can explore the gardens and park areas, with easy access from Oldenburg nearby. The pathways through the site are well-laid out, allowing for a comfortable walk through the outdoor spaces.

Dutch architect Cornelis Redelykheid designed the current structure around 1750, blending Dutch building techniques with French garden design principles. This mix of different European influences remains visible in the layout today.
