Schloss Reichersbeuern

Schloss Reichersbeuern is a castle in Reichersbeuern in Bavaria, built with Renaissance architecture and later enhanced in 1700 with Baroque additions on its northern side. The structure sits against the backdrop of the Alps and blends multiple architectural styles from different periods.

The castle was originally built in the 10th century by the Richer family as a fortress, having received the land as a fief from Tegernsee Abbey. It served to protect the region from invasions from the east.

The castle now serves as a school building, housing the Max-Rill-Schule within its walls. The institution teaches humanities, music, and sciences to its students there.

The castle is located in the municipality of Reichersbeuern and can be reached by car from larger towns in Bavaria. As it functions as a school building, it is not regularly open to visitors, so it is worth checking in advance.

Between 1934 and 1937, around 350 soldiers of the Austrian Legion were housed in the castle as a punitive measure against its owner. This episode reflects the complicated history of the place during the 20th century.
