Romrod Castle

The stone palace complex stands on elevated ground, featuring thick walls, multiple wings, and a defensive structure surrounded by the Antrift river valley.

The original moated fortress, constructed by the Lords of Romrod in the 11th century, underwent major renovations between 1578 and 1587 under Landgrave Ludwig IV.

The castle functions as an educational center operated by Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz, offering programs focused on monument preservation and architectural heritage.

Visitors can stay at the castle hotel, dine at the restaurant, and participate in various cultural events throughout the year in Vogelsbergkreis.

Archaeological excavations conducted from 1996 to 2002 revealed extensive medieval structures beneath the current castle grounds, documenting its architectural evolution.
