Sandersdorf Castle

Sandersdorf Castle is a fortified structure in Altmannstein, Bavaria, featuring four wings with gabled roofs and bay windows that create varied wall surfaces. A colonnade runs along the western side overlooking the Schambachtal valley.

The Lords of Sandersdorf founded the original fortress in the 12th century, but warfare destroyed much of it. The current structure was completed in 1646 following the end of major conflicts in the region.

The Chapel of St. Joseph contains religious artwork such as a crucifix carved by Ignaz Günther and a Romanesque tympanum set into the outer wall. These sacred pieces shape the interior character of the castle and reveal its spiritual importance to visitors walking through.
