St. Stephanus

St. Stephanus is a brick church built in neo-Romanesque style, marked by a double-tower front, a transept section, and a semi-circular apse at the east end. The floor plan creates a spacious interior with strong vertical lines running through the main nave.

Construction began in 1885 and was completed in 1887 at a location chosen to avoid flooding along Hitdorfer Strasse. The church bells were melted down during both world wars and new ones were consecrated in 1952.

The interior features neo-Gothic furnishings restored in historical colors, reflecting the craftsmanship and artistic choices of earlier generations.

The church is located on Hitdorfer Strasse in the Hitdorf neighborhood and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should note that a parish library is housed inside and is open during limited hours of the week.

The organ installed in 2002 originally came from St. Paul's Church in Chiswick, London, where it was built in 1872. This historic instrument traveled across more than a century and two countries before finding its current home.
