Untreusee

Untreusee is a reservoir in the Hof region of Bavaria that stretches for approximately two kilometers. The body of water features a broad surface surrounded by walking paths and multiple areas designed for recreational activities.

Construction of the reservoir began in 1976 as part of regional water management and flood control efforts. The project aimed to secure water supply while preventing flooding in the surrounding area.

The reservoir serves as a gathering place for water sports enthusiasts and locals seeking recreation. It brings people together for swimming, sailing, and community events like the annual dragon boat competition held each June.

The site sits at approximately 500 meters elevation with multiple access points and parking areas around the shoreline. Motor boats are prohibited, though swimming and other water activities are available throughout the year.

The reservoir serves dual purposes as a water supply storage and flood control facility while sitting at higher elevation. This combination of practical function and recreational use makes it a distinctive site in the Bavarian landscape.
