Villa Weigang, Heritage villa in Blasewitz, Germany
Villa Weigang is a three-winged house in Blasewitz featuring Renaissance details including a tower, steep roofs, a sundial, and shell-decorated wall recesses. The building sits along Goetheallee and Käthe-Kollwitz-Ufer, displaying these ornamental elements on its exterior facade.
Architect Max Georg Poscharsky designed this house and began construction in 1894, with printing company owner Otto Weigang from Bautzen purchasing it the following year. The building thus emerged in the late 1800s as a private residence for a wealthy business family.
The interior rooms display ornate stained glass windows and original ceramic fireplaces that preserve the craftsmanship of an earlier period. Wood paneling and decorative plasterwork shape the rooms and reflect the aesthetic ideas of those who built and furnished the house.
The building functions today as a registry office and can be viewed by visitors who inquire locally. Its location along two riverside paths makes it easily walkable to reach and offers pleasant views of the Elbe river and its banks.
In 2013, German registry officials selected this villa as the most beautiful registry office in the entire country through a national competition. The restoration work completed several years earlier had transformed its interior, making it stand out among government buildings nationwide.
