Vimy Barracks

Vimy Barracks is a military installation in Freising featuring a distinctive U-shaped layout centered around a parade ground. The four-story complex displays neo-baroque architectural elements and was constructed in the early 1900s.

Built from 1904 to 1906, the barracks initially served as headquarters for the 1st Royal Bavarian Jäger Battalion. Following World War II, American forces occupied the site.

The site takes its name from its former military function and is now home to residents who live among the neo-baroque facades. The historical buildings shape the neighborhood's character through their distinctive architecture that speaks to its past.

The site now functions as a residential community with modern apartments integrated into the original structures. Visitors can explore the grounds and view the preserved buildings from the exterior.

An underground parking facility sits beneath the former parade ground, linking modern infrastructure with the historical site. This practical addition demonstrates how the old military complex has adapted to contemporary urban needs.
