Volksbad Jena, Art Nouveau cultural center in Jena, Germany
Volksbad Jena is a cultural and event venue built in Art Nouveau style with local limestone and traditional room proportions. The structure contains a large hall for performances, several smaller rooms for different purposes, and modern technical systems for concerts, exhibitions, and presentations.
Construction took place between 1907 and 1909 under architect Wilhelm Werdelmann as a public bathhouse for local residents. After operating for over 90 years, it closed in 2001 and was later converted into a modern event and cultural space.
The name reflects its roots as a public bath for everyone in the community. Today visitors experience it as an event space where artists, musicians, and cultural organizations present their work to local audiences.
The building sits close to central Jena and near public transport stops, making arrival convenient for most visitors. Adequate parking spaces are available for those driving, and the venue can accommodate large groups comfortably.
Original architectural details from its bathhouse era remain visible throughout the building today. These preserved elements tell the story of its former purpose and give the space a distinctive historical character.
