Ebnether Keller

Ebnether Keller is a cellar complex made up of sandstone chambers carved directly into the hillside near Burgkunstadt. The site extends about 250 meters in length and 50 meters in width, with multiple connected rooms cut deep into the rock.

The complex was built around 1790 and originally served to store beer and food for the local community. After the mid-20th century, its use as a storage facility ended and the spaces took on different purposes.

The annual Father's Day celebration at Ebnether Keller, established in 1973, brings together residents for a traditional festival organized by local firefighters.

The site sits at 430 meters elevation and is reached via narrow forest paths covered with pine needles. The walk leads about 250 meters west of Ebneth to the complex and requires sturdy footwear for safe footing.

Among the rock formations, carved stone stairs lead to a flat summit where a ritual basin sits in the stone. This enigmatic basin among the rocks draws various interpretations from visitors exploring the site.
