Schloss Fechenbach, Baroque castle in Collenberg, Germany
Schloss Fechenbach is a two-story Baroque castle in Collenberg with a hip roof and central projection. The rectangular building is articulated by five dormer windows and encloses a service courtyard that reflects Italian architectural influences.
Construction took place between 1754 and 1755 for Franz Gottlob von Reigersberg following designs by the rising architect Johann Michael Fischer. Fischer later became a sought-after court architect for the prince-bishops of Würzburg and Bamberg.
The castle shapes the appearance of Collenberg today with its regular layout and symmetrical facades. Visitors can directly observe the craftsmanship in the stone details around windows and doorways.
The castle has been fully renovated and is in good structural condition today. Visitors should wear appropriate footwear as the natural stone floors inside the rooms can be slippery.
The castle displays a conscious blend of regional tradition and southern design language in its form. This combination was uncommon for its time in this region and documents the artistic ambitions of its patron.
