The Städtisches Museum Medebach is a local museum in Medebach, in the Hochsauerland region of Germany, housed in a building from the late 18th century. Its rooms display tools, household objects, photographs, and documents that trace the history of the town and its surrounding villages.
The museum opened in 1991 and has since focused on telling the story of Medebach over the centuries. In the Middle Ages, the town was part of the Hanseatic League, which made it a point on the major trade routes of northern Europe.
The exhibits show how people in Medebach worked and organized daily life, from farming to small trades. Shoemakers from the town once sold their goods at distant markets, traveling far to reach new buyers.
The museum is on Oberstrasse 28 in the center of Medebach, easy to reach on foot. It opens on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays for a few hours each time, with an extra afternoon session on the first Sunday of the month; groups can also arrange visits outside regular hours by contacting the staff in advance.
The collection also holds finds from local archaeology, showing that the area was settled long before the medieval period. After a period of closure, the museum reopened in August 2022, giving its displays a fresh setting.
