Niedertiefenbach

Niedertiefenbach is a Neolithic stone tomb with two separate chambers divided by upright stone partitions. The structure was built from large limestone slabs and contained multiple burial layers from different periods.

The tomb was built before 3000 BC and belongs to the Wartberg culture, an early farming society in Central Europe. It shows how these groups reused ritual burial sites over centuries.

The pottery and tools found inside show how Neolithic communities buried their dead and what objects they considered important for the afterlife. These items reveal religious beliefs that were central to this early farming society.

The tomb is located in a rural area and is visible from outside, though partially underground. Wear sturdy shoes as the ground can be uneven.

The tomb held the remains of around 177 people buried there over many generations. DNA analysis showed these early farmers descended from both local hunters and migrating farmers.
