Bayernturm, Observation tower in Sulzdorf an der Lederhecke, Germany
The steel Bayernturm stands 38 meters tall and features a 200-square-meter observation deck accessed by 180 steps, offering views into multiple German regions.
Built in 1966, the tower served as a viewpoint over the former East German border, allowing visitors to observe the border installations during German division.
The tower functions as a memorial site, connecting to nearby historical landmarks including Sternberg Castle, Brennhausen Water Castle, and Serrfeld Church Fortress.
Visitors need euro coins for entry and can reach the tower by following Turmstrasse from the main road, with parking available near the structure.
From the platform, observers can see five notable peaks: Veste Coburg, Veste Heldburg, Straufhain, Blessberg, and Dolmar near Meiningen.
