Greifvogelpark Katharinenberg, Greifvogelwarte in Deutschland
Greifvogelpark Katharinenberg is a bird of prey park in Wunsiedel located on a hill approximately 618 meters high. The park spans about 2 hectares and houses over 50 birds of prey in large enclosures, including eagles, falcons, hawks, owls, and eagle owls that are active both during the day and at night.
The park opened in 2007 and is considered one of Germany's most modern bird of prey parks, following new standards for keeping these birds. The location on Katharinenberg, named after a medieval chapel, connects the region's history with modern conservation goals.
The park takes its name from Katharinenberg hill, named after nearby ruins of a chapel dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. Visitors can see these historical remains while exploring the grounds and understand how this place has held meaning for the local community over time.
The park is open from April to November, Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm, with Mondays closed except on holidays. Flying demonstrations take place daily at 3 pm weather permitting, and additional practical details are available on the park's website.
The park operates a breeding facility with live cameras that allow visitors to watch eggs and chicks develop in real time without disturbing the birds. This offers a rare chance to observe the natural reproduction process up close.
