Warturm und Storchnest, Protected cultural heritage tower in Woltmershausen, Germany
The Warturm und Storchnest stands as a two-story structure with a steep gable roof, displaying inscriptions from 1577 on its main facade.
Built in 1309 as part of Bremen's defense line, the tower served as a fortification point until its destruction during the battles for Bremen in 1813.
The building represents the oldest non-religious structure on the left bank of the Weser River, following Bremen's town hall in historical importance.
Located at Warturmer Heerstraße 153, the former customs house now operates as a restaurant, maintaining its connection to public service.
The structure combines the remains of a medieval defense tower with a customs house that later became a nesting location for storks.
