Neues Mausoleum

Neues Mausoleum is a burial chamber with a cross-shaped plan and a central tower, its roof covered with curved clay tiles following Southern European design traditions. The interior contains marble sculptures, wall panels made from Venetian stone, and a gold mosaic ceiling dome.

Construction began in 1905 under the order of Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig and was completed by 1910 as a burial place for his parents and siblings. The project reflected the family's desire to create a lasting memorial within their estate.

The burial chamber serves as a memorial space where the grand ducal family honored their deceased members through art and architecture. The rich interior decoration reflects how the family wanted to preserve their memory and connection to loved ones.

The burial chamber is located within Rosenhöhe Park and can be visited as part of exploring the park grounds. Its position in the garden makes it accessible, though visitors should allow time to walk through the landscaped area to reach it.

The bronze entrance doors feature subtle biblical scenes that reward closer inspection with their artistic craftsmanship and symbolic meaning. These decorative elements unite the sacred purpose of the space with remarkable attention to detail.
