Neues Mausoleum, Royal mausoleum in Rosenhohe Park, Darmstadt, Germany
The Neues Mausoleum features a cruciform floor plan with a central crossing tower, covered by monk-and-nun tiles following Southern European architectural patterns.
Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig ordered the construction of this mausoleum between 1905 and 1910 to create a final resting place for his parents and siblings.
The interior contains marble sculptures depicting Grand Duchess Alice with her daughter Marie, created by Joseph Edgar Boehm, and Grand Duke Ludwig IV by Ludwig Habich.
Visitors can find the mausoleum within Rosenhohe Park, where it stands as part of a collection of burial structures for the House of Hesse.
The bronze entrance door displays biblical motifs, while the interior features marble slabs from Venice's Markuskirche and gold mosaic decorations in the dome.
