Schloss Weihenstephan, Architectural heritage castle in Hohenthann, Germany.
Schloss Weihenstephan is a baroque castle complex with a complete water moat and sections dating from the 18th century. The main residential building features a two-story mansard hipped roof with elaborate window shutters and separate north and east wings.
The complex was first mentioned in writing in 1229 and received its baroque form through reconstructions in the 17th century. This transformation replaced earlier structures and shaped the castle's appearance for centuries to come.
The chapel on the north side shows baroque features and served as a place for worship of the residents. It shapes the complex to this day and tells of the religious practices of the nobility in this region.
The castle is located in a rural setting and is accessible by foot or car. The water moat and surrounding grounds can be viewed from public areas nearby.
A fire in 2006 destroyed the outbuildings and caused damage amounting to millions of euros. The subsequent restoration work enabled improvements to the structure and secured the site for the future.
