The Renaissance-style Villa Rothermundt stands at Mendelssohnallee 34, featuring bay windows, towers, and decorative chimneys that enhance its architectural profile.
Adolf Rothermundt, son of a German merchant from St. Petersburg who owned a sugar refinery, commissioned architect Karl Emil Scherz to build this villa in 1895.
The villa contained an extensive art collection including works by Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh, while hosting chamber concerts for Dresden's musical community.
Following renovations between 2007 and 2008 costing 3.7 million euros, the villa now houses the Sächsisches Landesgymnasium für Musik with modern educational facilities.
The building survived World War II with minimal damage and transformed from a food distribution center in 1945 to a music school under Soviet Military Administration.
