Lösecke house, Historical merchant house in Lüneburg, Germany
The Lösecke House stands at Stintmarkt with a half-timbered facade facing the water and a red brick front facing the street. Today it contains an Irish pub in the cellar, an Italian restaurant on the ground floor, and apartments above.
The building was constructed in the early 1500s as a brewery with a cellar that survived through centuries of changes. In the 1800s, Georg von Lösecke established his wine business there, reshaping the building's character and purpose.
The building served as a social gathering place for wealthy merchants who met here for business and leisure activities. This role as a meeting point for local commerce and society has left a lasting mark on how the place is understood in the old town.
The building sits directly on the water and is easy to reach from the city center while exploring the old town. It is actively used by businesses and residents, so the best time to observe it is during daylight hours when you can see both facades clearly.
After a destructive fire in 2013, the structure was rebuilt with modern fire protection systems while keeping its historical appearance intact. This successful blend of safety upgrades and preserved design makes it a noteworthy example of contemporary restoration work.
