Gut Auermühle, Estate and cultural monument in Steinhorst, Germany.
Gut Auermühle is an estate with a mansion designed in Art Nouveau style located in the Südheide region. The property contains multiple structures that together formed a working agricultural center with distinctive early 20th century architecture.
Fritz Beindorff purchased the estate in 1908 and commissioned architect Karl Siebrecht to develop it into a modern agricultural operation, with major construction completed by 1914. Under his direction, it developed into one of the region's leading farms.
The pelican sculptures adorning the mausoleum were created by Ludwig Vierthaler and reflect the artistic taste of early 20th century landowners. These sculptures remain visible today and show how estate owners expressed their status through art and design.
The property sits west of Bundesstrasse 4 near Auerwald forest and is visible from the road, making it easy to locate. Bus routes serve nearby towns including Groß Oesingen, Hankensbüttel, and Steinhorst, offering convenient travel options.
The estate became known for producing high-fat milk that supplied the Celle market during the early 20th century and eventually developed into a regional dairy center. This specialized focus set it apart from typical grain and livestock farms of the period.
