St. Erhard, Romanesque church in Rieshofen, Germany
St. Erhard is a Romanesque church in Walting with a distinctive tower whose lower sections date to the Middle Ages. The nave was extended in the 18th century and the tower received Gothic elements in later periods that shaped its appearance.
The church tower foundations were built in the 12th century and form the oldest element of the structure. The nave underwent several renovations between the 18th and 20th centuries that adapted the building to changing needs.
The church is dedicated to Saint Erhard and holds his name within the local community. The bell tower contains three bells that ring together at different times of day and create a warm sound that marks the rhythm of village life.
The building sits in the village center and is easy to reach on foot, with an active cemetery right beside it. Access is open during daylight hours and visitors can view the church anytime services are not taking place.
Two of the three bells in the tower were cast after World War II and bring different time periods together in one sound. This bell set combines modern craftsmanship with the tower's ancient function of spreading messages through sound across the village.
