St. Elisabeth

St. Elisabeth is a Roman Catholic church in the Lechhausen district of Augsburg, Germany, featuring exposed brick construction that gives the building its distinctive character. The structure extends 70 meters in length and rises 30 meters high, with bricks fired at different times creating varied tones across the facade.

The church was constructed in the 1950s as a permanent replacement for a temporary wooden structure from 1937 that had served the growing population of the industrial district. This established it as the second Catholic parish church to serve the rapidly expanding neighborhood.

The interior displays large glass mosaics showing scenes from the life of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary across the choir wall. These works catch your eye immediately upon entering and tell religious stories to those who pause to look at them.

The church sits at the intersection of Elisabethstraße and Kolbergstraße, making it easy to locate in the neighborhood. A parish house on Gneisenaustraße is nearby if you need additional information about visiting or attending services.

The organ was installed in 2008 by builder Siegfried Schmid and contains 2,530 pipes arranged across 38 registers, replacing the original instrument from 1957. This substantial musical instrument plays a significant role in the liturgical experience of the space.
