Burg Wildenstein

Burg Wildenstein in Dietfurt an der Altmühl is a medieval castle sitting on a ridge that extends into the Laabertal valley. The main building has two stories with a central projection and a mansard roof, surrounded by a park with 19th-century architectural details.

This castle was founded in the 13th century and initially served as the seat of the Wildenstein family. It later passed into the hands of the Lichtenauer and Toerring families.

The chapel within the complex dates to 1556 and displays regional architectural features including decorative plasterwork and an onion dome. Visitors can observe these elements as they walk around the grounds and notice how the building reflects local construction traditions.

The castle remains in private ownership and visitors should respect property boundaries. The surrounding park can be explored from the outside and offers views of the fortress and the valley below.

The northeastern section preserves portions of the original medieval fortress walls and a stone viewing platform. These structures offer a rare look at how the castle was designed for defense centuries ago.
