Sommeracher Katzenkopf

Sommeracher Katzenkopf is a vineyard location in southeastern Franconia that spans gentle slopes with southwest-facing orientation. The vines benefit from long evening sunlight for grape ripening, and the planted area is managed by a cooperative of around 90 winemaking families.

The vineyard has been documented since 1802 and established itself as an important area within Franconian wine production. Over more than two centuries, it has maintained and developed its reputation for producing quality wines.

The name derives from the hillside's shape, which resembles a cat's head, reflecting the deep connection between the landscape and local winemaking. Visitors can observe how the vines shape the slopes and are woven into the village's identity.

Visitors can taste local wines at the Kostbar shop run by the cooperative and learn more about the winemaking process. The facility operates throughout the week and provides direct access to explore the region's products.

The subsoil contains Muschelkalk limestone with clayey layers, creating specific conditions that favor wines with excellent aging potential. This geological composition plays a key role in shaping the character of wines produced here.
