Årslev Dyssen, Neolithic burial site in Brabrand, Denmark.
Årslev Dyssen is a Neolithic stone chamber grave with a passage entrance positioned along Silkeborgvej in Brabrand. The structure has maintained its form over thousands of years despite the development of the surrounding area.
The grave was built around 5500 years ago during the Neolithic period and represents one of the oldest human structures in the region. Originally two more similar burial mounds stood nearby before disappearing in the 1800s.
The site shows how people in the Stone Age buried their dead and what communal burial grounds meant to their communities. You can still observe how these graves were constructed and what rituals surrounded them.
The site sits directly along Silkeborgvej in Brabrand and is freely accessible for self-guided visits at any time. The location is easy to reach and offers a clear view of the ancient construction methods.
Two identical burial chambers stood in the immediate area until the 1800s, with their exact locations now known only through old records. The disappearance of these structures shows how development over time has endangered similar archaeological monuments.
