Copenhagen City Hall, Art Nouveau town hall in Copenhagen Municipality, Denmark

Copenhagen City Hall is an Art Nouveau administrative building that rises about 105 meters high and features a gilded statue of Absalon above its balcony. The richly decorated façade and distinctive roofline shape the cityscape and make it a recognizable landmark.

The current building was completed in 1905 and replaced three earlier city halls at different locations that were destroyed by fires in 1728 and 1795. Its construction marked a major step in creating a new administrative center for the growing city.

The building houses remarkable artworks and showcases craftsmanship through ornate railings and detailed wall paintings throughout its interior spaces. The Jens Olsen World Clock inside demonstrates the skill of Danish engineers and stands as a testament to local technical expertise.

The building can be explored through guided tours, and visitors can climb a spiral staircase with many steps to reach the tower observation platform. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and check opening times and possible access restrictions beforehand.

The Danish National Bank released a commemorative medal marking the building's century milestone, featuring its distinctive tower and characteristic roofline. This medal became popular with collectors and honors the architectural importance of the structure.
