Bornholms Museum of Arts

Bornholm Museum of Arts is an art center spread across three levels on a slope descending toward the sea near the Sanctuary Rocks. The building houses galleries displaying paintings and modern art forms from the early 19th century to today.

The museum was founded in 1893 and received a new building in 1993 designed by Fogh and Følner architects. An expansion followed in 2003 to create additional exhibition space.

The museum displays works by artists inspired by Bornholm and its landscapes. The collection reflects the long connection between this island and Denmark's art scene.

The site follows a slope, so exploring the different levels is part of the visit and requires some mobility. The location near the coast and the small harbor of Gudhjem allows you to combine your visit with a walk to the sea.

The museum building uses a natural healing spring whose water flows through the central corridor and subtly divides the gallery spaces. This water from the Helligdomskilde has been known for its supposed healing properties for centuries.
