Finderup-bunkeren, NATO command bunker in Finderup training area, Denmark.
Finderup-bunkeren is a NATO military facility located in the Finderup training area, built as a deeply buried underground command post. The structure contains multiple subterranean levels and was constructed with reinforced concrete throughout to provide maximum protection.
The facility was built in the late 1970s and served as NATO's regional command center during the Cold War. It was decommissioned in 2013 when NATO restructured its command organization.
A peace movement established a protest camp nearby between 1984 and 1985, opposing potential nuclear weapons deployment in Denmark. The camp reflected widespread public concerns about military buildup during that era.
The site is now sealed and closed to the public following its decommissioning, making interior access impossible. You can only view the area from outside and explore the surrounding training grounds.
The construction cost per square meter was exceptionally high and exceeded that of Copenhagen Opera House when completed. This makes it one of Denmark's most expensive military structures ever built.
