Kegnæs Lighthouse

Kegnæs Lighthouse, Maritime navigation lighthouse in Kegnæs peninsula, Denmark.

Leuchtturm Kegnæs is a brick lighthouse on the Kegnæs peninsula that guides ships in the Little Belt strait. The structure is painted in white and red, standing as a navigation marker for vessel traffic through this waterway.

The structure was built in 1896 at this location, replacing an older tower that had served the region for years before. It has endured different periods of control as the administration of the southern territory changed over time.

The lighthouse serves as a guiding landmark for mariners crossing the Little Belt strait and forms part of the maritime identity of the local fishing community on the southern tip of Als. Its distinctive appearance is recognizable from a distance and ties the area to its seafaring heritage.

The best time to visit is during calm weather when the coastal landscape is clear and the outlook over the Little Belt is rewarding. The site sits away from main roads and requires a deliberate trip to the peninsula to reach it.

During World War II, soldiers stationed in temporary wooden barracks nearby guarded the lighthouse for military purposes. This strategic use is barely visible today but once shaped the daily life at this remote coastal position.
