Kongstedlund

Kongstedlund is a rectangular manor house in Himmerland with white-washed walls built on a foundation that includes dried moats. A sculptured sandstone entrance portal marks the main approach to the building.

Danish nobleman Niels Juul founded this manor in 1592 on the ruins of an earlier fortification. The Renaissance-style architecture developed over time and now characterizes the building's appearance.

The sandstone entrance portal displays carved soldiers in full armor, angels, and female figures that support a family coat of arms. These sculptures show the status and importance that the family who lived here wished to display.

The property is a private residence not open to visitors, but the exterior and surrounding grounds are easy to see from the nearby road. A slow walk around the perimeter gives the best view of the building's architectural details.

Princess Dagmar of Denmark, daughter of King Frederik VIII, made her home here from 1922 to 1961 alongside her husband Jorgen Castenskiold. This royal connection remains part of the property's story.
